fun•ctional and one-of-a-kind!

Every item in the shop is hand painted by Michelle! She focuses on keeping the designs fresh and fun while also prioritizing function because let’s face it, handmade items can be pricey so they should last a long time! Her hope is that her pottery becomes a keepsake that can be used every day for many years to come.

Michelle creates high quality ceramic goods straight from her home to yours! The pottery process is slow. Every piece of pottery takes about 4-6 weeks to complete from start to finish so she has a lot of time to be thoughtful and intentional about how the final product turns out.

 About the artist…

Michelle Sakai-Hart (she/her/hers), is an AAPI ceramics artist, educator, and ocean enthusiast.

Born and raised in California, much of Michelle’s inspiration comes from her love and study of the ocean. She earned her B.S. in Aquatic Biology at UC Santa Barbara and M.A. in Education at Loyola Marymount University before she serendipitously got into pottery! Michelle took a class during grad school on a whim and turned a hobby into her small business.

michelle’s mission is to share her story as an artist and to inspire others to follow their passions through her ceramics.

She uses her artwork and events to connect and collaborate with other makers and businesses in the local community. Michelle focuses on partnerships with BIPOC and women-owned businesses and currently has pottery in six stores throughout California and Oregon. Michelle lives in Santa Barbara, CA where she spends as much time at the beach with her husband and golden retriever.
